Cutting Board Care

The Bird Leaf’s cutting boards are made of natural materials, and variations in color and texture are to be expected. Wood is a living material, and some cracking or settling could occur over time. Proper use and care are essential to maintaining the beauty and safety of your cutting board.

Use

  • Board is not suitable for stovetop, oven or microwave use.
  • Do not use as a serving surface for hot food.
  • Your board has been seasoned with a food-grade mineral oil and after cleaning with hot soapy water or the provided cutting board cleaner, your board is ready to use!

 Care

  • Hand wash with hot, soapy water or with provided cleaning solution. Dry thoroughly.
  • Do not soak or submerge board in water. Do not put in dishwasher.
  • To sanitize after cutting foods with a risk of bacteria (e.g., meat, poultry and fish), wash the board with a solution of one part vinegar to five parts water.
  • Remove odors by rubbing the board with kosher or table salt and half a lemon. Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Remove excess moisture with a clean paper towel and stand the board on end to air dry.
  • Store in a dry area away from extreme temperatures.
  • Occasionally rub with a food-safe mineral oil and/or cutting board wax (small portion provided) to keep wood from drying out.
